Welcome to the Snow Fields of Australia

Getting to the NSW Snow fields.
From Jindabyne, access is by sealed road. Motorists are legally required to carry properly fitting chains in any vehicle other than 4WD’s in a “snow-ice” risk section within the National Park. It’s an easy half hour drive from Jindabyne in good weather.

Coaches
Express Coaches (Snowscene Express) operate from Brisbane/Gold Coast/ North NSW/Mid coast NSW to the Snowfields each Saturday of the Season, whilst Coach Transfers from Canberra Airport and Sydney Airport operate on Friday and Sunday mornings. Private transfers are also available from Canberra and Snowy Mountains Airport (Cooma).

Driving
If you are going to drive, then don’t forget Anti Freeze, Snow Chains, Roof Rack for the Skis and boards, and even a plastic sheet for muddy boots or for fitting chains in the snow. Perisher Blue and Thredbo are both an easy 5.5 to 6 hour drive from Sydney, 7 hours from Melbourne or 16 hours from Brisbane with more than half the distance on freeway standard or dual carriage roads.

Getting to the Victorian Snow Fields.
You can drive, fly or catch a bus to Victoria's snowfields. Victoria's alpine resorts lie predominantly to the north-east of Melbourne.
Drive
Driving distances from the city are as follows:
· Lake Mountain - 120 kilometres to the east, 2 hours drive
· Mt Baw Baw - 160 kilometres, two and a half hour's drive
· Mt Stirling and Mt Buller - 250 kilometres, 3 hour's drive
· Mt Hotham and Falls Creek lie further to the north-east, 357 kilometres, approximately four and a half hour's drive
· Mt Buffalo - 325 kilometres, four hour's drive

Mountain roads are usually cleared of snow, but occasionally chains need to be fitted to tyres for better grip. It is compulsory to carry chains at all times in the mountains and fit them when directed. Mount Hotham, Mt Buller, Falls Creek and Mt Buffalo have chain-fitting bays. Some resorts have staff available to assist guests to fit their chains. Chains can be hired at ski shops in Melbourne or at the towns at the base of each ski area. Also make sure there is anti-freeze in your radiator to avoid potential engine damage.

Fly
The Mount Hotham Airport is 20 kilometres from the resort. Connection from Melbourne is 35 minutes and 55 minutes from Sydney. Flights are also available into Albury from major destinations with a bus service to Falls Creek.

Bus
Buses are also a great way to get to a Victorian alpine resort, taking the hassle out of having to organise chains, directions and car parking.
